Féilte 2015 took place on the 3rd October in the RDS, and we were delighted to be part of it. This wonderful event was hosted by the Teaching Council, and gave teachers and parents a chance to talk about and share ideas about teaching and learning. We were honoured to be part of the first ever Researchmeet, and it was great to get the chance to share some of our ideas on enhancing children’s well-being, in the beautiful surroundings of the library space. Fiona outlined some of the Positive Psychology Interventions which she used in her classroom last year, and showed the feedback received from the children and parents.
She also got the opportunity to talk about the outcomes of Mick’s research thesis, which showed that PPIs enhanced pupils’ well-being in the areas of self-worth and self–efficacy. We will be uploading Mick’s research findings and my Féilte presentation slides soon.
There were so many great ideas and conversations on the day – we particularly enjoyed the Teachmeet- so many inspiring yet practical teaching and learning ideas delivered in such an energetic format! We will definitely be using some of them in the coming weeks. Mark Pollock’s address was inspiring and uplifting - his message on the power of collaboration was later echoed by Dr. Maureen Gaffney in her closing address. It was exciting to hear her talk about Positive Psychology; her message not to leave happiness to chance really resonated with me. That is exactly what the aim of Weaving Well-Being is – to ensure that our children are given the skills and tools necessary to empower them on their journeys towards happiness and well-being. Now that research is showing us how to develop these skills, we have a great opportunity to make sure that the happiness and well-being of our children is not left to chance- exciting times ahead!
Féilte 2016 is taking place in the RDS on Saturday 1st October - We hope to be there next year, sharing our ideas and research. A definite date for your diary!
